Fall 2015 Trend Report: Marvelous Manes & Fresh Makeup

If you've been observing the fall runway shows and have have watched the latest award ceremonies, it's clear that hair trends for 2015/2016 showcase a range of lengths, colors, and styles, with exciting makeup to match. We've included some of our favorites in this blog and hope they'll inspire you if you're considering a change or just want to see what's new on the street and the runways. 

Lady Gaga rocked a retro glam bob at the Emmys, and looks spectacular in this specific style that frames her face nicely and showcases her beautiful features. This is pure Hollywood glam from a past era, but we’re happy to see its resurgence.

Sienna Miller looks unruly and sassy with her sweet wavy style at the Burberry Prorsum fashion show. This edgy look incorporates a shoulder-grazing cut with loose waves that’s nothing short of sexy, fun, and playful.

Hair Color Forecast for Fall 2015

Ombré remains popular, bold streaks of color, and “babylights”—a technique of painting on highlights in smaller sections to mimic the natural effects of sunbathed hair—are all hot trends seen on the streets and the runways. Luxurious, warm colors that are ideal for fall and cooler months ahead include darker blondes and golds, deep browns, rich reds and coppers, are all sharing the limelight.

And then there’s the more unique shades of the rainbow that are the craze of the moment…think “My Little Pony,” and unicorns.

Angel baby—Eva Longoria looks purely angelic in her “babylights.”

Dark chocolate—good for the body and the hair, as illustrated on Katie Holmes— looking radiant in her mid-length “lob.”

You’re as cold as Ice…Gwen Stephanie warms up her icy-white blonde hair with “buttercup” at the roots and tips to keep her platinum locks looking cool instead of  brassy.

My Blue Heaven…If you’re a celebrity or Marge Simpson, you can pull off the blue haired look. For the rest of us, there are more subtle and work appropriate effects we can achieve with blue tints on dark hair that provide a striking effect. Check out Nicole Richie with her blue tints interwoven with her dark brown hair, capturing just enough of the blue highlights for spectacular color play results.

“Bronde,” is a newly coined term inspired by blondes who are edging their way toward the dark side…but not too dark. Blake Lively is a master at this one, and she pulls it off beautifully.

Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is another icon sporting the new “bronde” look very tastefully.

And then there’s the unicorn/My Little Pony brigade, otherwise known as “rainbow hair,” which can be seen everywhere these days—from morning co-host Kelly Ripa of The Kelly & Michael Show, to pop stars including Kesha and Katie Perry, among numerous others.

Frazzled Over Frizz? Keratin, take me away…

                                 

Summer is supposed to be for carefree fun in the sun, and given the short season in New England, we take advantage of every second of it by being outside. But like many, when the air becomes dense with moisture, hair drinks it up like a sponge—resulting in frizz and other unruly disasters. What’s a girl to do?

Keratin treatments are a popular solution, but these days, with all the options available, it’s hard to know which one is best. The answer? It all depends on the desired result—straight, smooth and flat? Keep the curl but lose the frizz? Which lasts the longest and is the most recommended? So many questions, so little time.

To demystify the confusion, let’s start with the options and differentiators for each. As a Goldwell® salon, Jesamondo Salon & Spa offers three types of keratin treatments: Keratin Complex by Coppola, Brazilian Blowout Treatment, and Goldwell® Kerasilk® Keratin Treatment.

First and foremost, there is no right or wrong choice, but it’s best to consult your stylist for advice since the results are slightly different for each type of treatment. Depending on your hair texture, lifestyle, and the result you’re seeking, she/he can help you select the treatment that’s best for you.

Depicted as a “miracle” solution for unruly locks, keratin beautifies any type of hair—from African American to color-treated and bleached hair. Anyone who spends hours blow-drying and flat-ironing in hopes of loosening and straightening their curls, is a good candidate. So what’s the difference between each? Read on…

Keratin Complex by Coppola contains keratin proteins. It was the first of the keratin treatments to hit the market creating straighter, shinier and healthier hair. The process takes about 2-3 hours depending on hair type and length, and the hair cannot be washed, put into a ponytail or even tucked behind the ears for 72 hours. It lasts for 3-5 months depending on how often the hair is washed each week. As with all keratin treatments, it’s imperative to use the specific shampoo and conditioners created for each type of keratin treatment. Keratin Complex requires products that contain keratin protein in them for the best results.

Cost: $350

Down time: 72 hours

Brazilian Blowout Treatment differs from Keratin Complex in that it contains amino acids to control the frizz and create the same smoothing effects. As with the other treatments, the proper shampoo and conditioners must be used—in this case, the products must contain amino acids. Like Keratin Complex, the process takes around 2-3 hours, but you can wash and do anything with your hair after 24 hours. The treatment lasts for 3-5 months depending on how often the hair is washed each week.

Cost: $300

Downtime: 24 hours

Goldwell® Kerasilk® Keratin Treatment differs from other treatments given a new technology the company has created. Keratin protein is used but unlike other treatments, it’s customizable for each client and their specific desired result. It can smooth and retain the shape of curls while completely de-frizzing the hair, leaving it soft and full of volume. For those who love their curly locks but hate the frizz and don’t want completely straight hair, this is the ideal treatment. There’s a wide spectrum of looks that can be achieved with this new treatment. And best of all? There’s NO DOWN TIME! The hair is washed before the client leaves the salon and is sealed with Goldwell® Kerasilk® Sealing Serum so it’s ready to wash and style at any time. The results last 3 to 5 months, depending on how often the hair is shampooed each week.

Cost: $375

Downtime: NONE!
