Spotlight on Charity
Runway Events
Behind the Scenes with Jesamondo
Salon & Spa
As the new owner of a well-established salon and spa, it
wasn’t easy to know what to expect when we were approached and agreed to supply
hair and make up services for the Wellesley Service League’s (WSL) annual runway event—“Giving
Back is the New Black.” The event
included a fashion runway, silent and live auctions, and a range of vendors
selling their wares with a portion of sales donated to this year’s
cause—providing scholarships to children who cannot otherwise afford to go to
summer camp.

What I wasn’t prepared for was making a speech at the end of
the show—after being thanked and introduced as the salon provider for the
beauty aspect of the event. Given that the room was filled with ladies only, I
already felt like the elephant in the room as the only male, so I panicked! Given
5 minutes notice to piece together a quick speech was not easy, nonetheless, I
quickly jotted notes on the last remaining crumpled cocktail napkins to avoid
more embarrassment.
Heart pounding, adrenaline surging through my veins, I eased
my way to the podium without any trips or falls, so was off to a good start. Beginning
the speech with a little humor helped—noting that yes, I was in fact, the only male figure in the room and why. Everything
went smoothly thereafter and the event came to a perfect close.
Reflecting back on the other speeches made that day by
various WSL members regarding the
charity and the money it had raised this year was impressive, and I felt even more
proud for donating the time and energy of eight of my stylists to perform their
magic—making each woman look and feel spectacular on that runway.
Would I do it again? You bet! In fact, I’m pleased and
honored to announce that Jesamondo Salon & Spa did two more
fashion runway shows for charitable causes.
Our stylists provided hair and make up services (using Stacey Frasca/Studio 28 cosmetics, developed by celebrity make up
artist, Stacey Frasca) for the St. Sebastian’s Runway Event on May 19th, 2015,
followed by coifs for the child models for the annual St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital “Runway to Miracles” event on May 20th, 2015.

Jesamondo Salon & Spa
proudly supported the Schofield 5K Road
Race this year. It was a perfect day for running and supporting two
wonderful causes. Last year, everyone raised money for ALS with the "ice
bucket challenge" that went viral on YouTube
worldwide, and this year, at the Schofield Road Race and through the generous
support from the families in the Wellesley community, Team Brenda was supported. Brenda is an endearing and tremendously
supportive Schofield Elementary School asset, stricken with ALS herself. The
team has nearly reached its goal of raising $10K, to support Brenda and her
family with their needs during this difficult time.
Additionally, another cause
that touched home with many was represented at the race with Team Larry and The Sepsis
Alliance. Larry Cervon, another
Schofield community member, was stricken with a life threatening case of sepsis
last year, and narrowly survived. Returning to his strong self almost a year
later, Larry and his family ran for the cause to raise awareness for this
dangerous and life-threatening situation. Bravo everyone!
Giving back to the community has always been our way of
thanking our customers for their patronage—donating to the fire department, a
softball league, or road race—always giving of ourselves and our time to worthy
and charitable causes through localized events. Each of these have provided us
with a different sense of pride—one we hadn’t previously experienced, and ones
we’ll never forget.
While the company sponsors several events each year, we all
found that by contributing our time and providing beauty services for
charitable causes, it made us feel like we were an integral part of each of these events. We saw
the results of our work—the confidence we instilled in each model by making her
feel beautiful and special as she strutted across the stage. Or through
sponsorships and donations that helped make great
events even better by raising additional funds.
Making people look and feel beautiful is our business. But it’s
an honor and a privilege to be approached by charities and having them ask us to provide beauty
services for their special events, as that clearly indicates their belief in our
abilities to provide stellar results that will make them shine.
Jesamondo Salon &
Spa will gladly continue to support these and other charitable causes and
events for years
to come.
We graciously thank you all for inviting us into your events and
your lives and look forward to many more exciting experiences in the years to
come.
Very sincerely,
Team Jesamondo!
